RJ’s Cafe

About RJ’s

A hand-painted sign, a harbor town.

The maroon-and-cream “RJ’s Cafe” sign has marked this corner of Dana Marina Plaza as the neighborhood spot for breakfast and lunch, coffee mugs and all.

The idea

A diner room that feels lived in.

RJ's Cafe is a Dana Point Harbor institution — a cozy, wood-paneled dining room and a patio shaded by olive umbrellas, serving stacked omelettes, benedicts, stuffed French toast and hearty plates every morning. Regulars know it as the warm, throwback spot with the palm-tree mugs and a line that moves fast.

The room is wood-paneled and unhurried, with ceiling fans turning overhead and a wall of signed old-timer celebrity headshots that regulars point out to first-timers. Out on the patio, olive umbrellas and wicker chairs make it easy to stay for a second cup.

What we believe

Early mornings, easy afternoons.

01

A Real Throwback Diner

Wood paneling, ceiling fans, and a wall of signed old-timer celebrity headshots — the kind of warm, cozy room that feels like it's been here for decades.

02

Open Mornings, Every Day

Doors open at 6:30 and the griddle runs until 3, seven days a week — early enough for the harbor crowd, easy enough for a slow Sunday.

03

A Patio Built for Lingering

Olive umbrellas, wicker chairs, and a heated patio that stays lively even on a busy morning — ask any regular where they sit.

04

The Line Moves Fast

It gets busy — this is one of the best-known breakfast spots in South Orange County — but the kitchen and the counter keep it moving.

Behind the counter

Made by hand, every morning.

Every benedict, omelette, and stack of stuffed French toast is built to order at the griddle — and yes, coffee still comes in the palm-tree mugs.
